I was introduced to this drama series by Athirah on Twitter and that was after my social media break. Initially, I had wanted to put on hold and focus all my energy on only 1 task at hand, Ramadhan. However, the hype of the drama got to me as more friends (online, schoolmates, halaqah peeps and even work buddies!) praised the oft-quoted drama to the point that they mention how I wore a tudung that was similar to one of the leading characters. (Tak penting eh kienah! iGeram)
One of the ways I usually try to soften this urge of watching any drama/movie is to just read reviews about it. It would usually just tame the urge and I would be satisfied cos I have better (isiit) things to do and honestly, reading about it is so much faster and satisfying than having to wait for each episode to be aired. But I gave in to this drama. I am only at the 3rd episode but what I can say is that, it has been worth it.
I really liked how the scriptwriter captured such emerging and pertinent issues surrounding his community. If not for some humour, I would probably be all tensed and sad as one cannot help but to empathise with the characters as each scene unfolded.
Major themes that has been covered thus far include the spirit to search for the truth (mukhlis, orang yang ikhlas), family relations, jodoh, rezeki, qadr, condition of orphanages, religion as a shield for both good and bad, celebrity asatizah, family that encourages good, family that encourages bad, community activists, sangka baik (good thoughts about others), adab during khitbah (engagement) period, a call to be more creative in our dakwah approaches etc. Best part is that there’s no cringey parts. (or is it too early to say?)
(ok scratch that last part. There’s cringey scenes.)
What I can say is that, do take the good parts. Take the parts where it strikes a chord on our heartstrings where it rings a bell in our minds. May we become people that are both aware of the relationship with God and our people. <3. Really liked the part where the privileged few stopped to reflect on their lives. This I think is the main reason why we should not distance ourselves from society. We act as mirrors to one another literally reflecting each other. In this regard, we have barely scratched the surface of many impending issues as there are more to things than what meets the eye. It’s reallyyyy hard to deal with society as it is physically, emotionally and spiritually taxing.
But it’ll be worth it, InshaAllah.
May Allah give us the strength to push on 😥
…Meanwhile, gotta use this drama as a reward for self after finishing my work. No such thing as a drama marathon ><
