of grand talks and Asatizah influencers

It was a peaceful event. One that reminded me that effort matters.

I was never (and still not) a fan of grand talks i.e, talks held at high end (costly) venues such as expo, joyden hall, suntec etc. I don’t really like one off, big events that charge really high for admission. On top of that, a line up of asatizah influencers squeezed within 4 hours, peppered with some performance in between? is not something I would readily seek out for.

Don’t get me wrong. I do not look down on such events. I guess, those events just don’t sit well with me.

I think the main reason is that I need depth and continuity when learning about religion.

I failed to realise that grand events has merits that I appreciate – one that brings people together, allows us to learn in a comfortable setting with the hard work of the organiser, promotes a sense of jama’ah and ultimately, its bite size info are little nudges for one to wake up. The lectures might be short to cater to more speakers. But it cannot be denied that sometimes, all one needs is a simple wake up call.

(I was fighting the urge to compare in terms of quantity of speakers vs quality of speakers but end up accepting that each info shared, will always be beneficial if only one reflects and acts on it)

Hence, I truly, really, benefited from the session as it covers so many topics, with succinct steps and points for one to wake up, and reflect.

  • Qada Qadar
  • How to be a professional mukmin (so timely! Especially now that I need to improve as an employee) based on Surah Al-Qasas verse 26 where Allah described Nabi Musa a.s as “Qawiyyul Ameen” (yup, my parents named my brother in relation to this verse). A strong and trustworthy person ❤
  • Putting Allah in every relationship we have with others ❤
  • Islam elevates the status of women. Don’t look at the people around us. Look at the best of mankind. How Rasulullah s.a.w treated his household. ❤
  • Aiming and achieving a good end – husnul khatimah.

I was, however, unable to take notes as precisely and nicely as sahabat. While she scribbled away, full of dedication on her iPad (thank you for allowing me to have a go at it. It is surely a good invention but not sure if I would use it…), I was zoning in and out and trying to capture each point but ended up just listening with occasional note-taking. :’)

An unplanned event which was only possible with the help of Allah for He moved my heart, lend me the time and energy. Of course, sahabat who asked around for anyone who would want to share a 1 for 1 ticket with me.

Alhamdulillah ❤
