What does one do on an off day?

So my very kind sister (who introduced me to my job) and now, manager, gave me time off for me to take in all the things I’ve learnt the past week. That’s really thoughtful of her as I didn’t know I needed one. Hence good news! I’ll only work on alternate Saturdays as long as I’m under the rehabilitation department. Alhamdulillah!

So to the topic (question) at hand, my first thought would be to sleep in. HAHA. But Allah allowed me to meet a wonderful Indonesian sister at Alqudwah Academy last Tuesday via Syafiqah Samsudin. In short, she’s someone I thought would fit the criteria of a mentor who Hazirah is trying hard to find. So I took the opportunity to come for an Echoedlabs session to introduce my new friend and to basically, kepo. Or what Abah and Ummi described as “cari chance”. Whatever that means :p

I am truly humbled to have been welcomed to just sit in and observe the session. (Met some of the hardworking ladies of Codette Project! Dapat nasi ayam sedap Cik Su lagiii. huhu. My friend and I felt out of place because we were only there to observe..so thank you for the welfare..barakallahu feekum).

So this 2 year programme is called Code Hero which is designed and conducted by the inspiring people from Echoedlabs. A programme which aims to impart coding skills, enable and develop Madrasah students in design thinking and ultimately to be contributors to our community! Kudos to the team for anticipating such gap and trying to bridge it as such skills continue to be useful and highly sought after in today’s setting.

On top of all that, they were recently featured on berita. You can read it here!

So today’s session was opportune as they recap what they’ve learnt for the first half of the year and revisited their intent and goals for why they joined this programme in the first place. That was really amazing as it keeps one reminded and hopefully stay grounded to the cause. Well it also allowed me to get a picture of what this programme means from both mentors and mentees as well as to macam faham-ly nod at all the things they’ve learnt. I was even more amazed as I managed to witness the students’ projects! It was of course heartwarming when our students are able to show results and development but also equally nice to hear the reason behind their projects and how they formulated the idea. But what touched me most was how this programme simultaneously develop their problem solving and presentation skills. Skills which I sorely lacked when I was their age. So I was really fascinated as they presented their work guided by the steps that the mentors put forth at the start.

Good job to all. Truly a nice Saturday morning spent 🙂

Side story: So I went back home with Kak R as we were headed to the East. She was saying how her role is mostly back end. Then I mentioned TBH and asked if he is front end? She said yes. But after a moment, I said that he looks more like all ends. To which we laughed as we agreed on that. MashaAllah. Semoga tabah selalu!
