songs these days…

Ok my first day of 2019 didn’t go so well. I “rested” at home right after the qiyam after only 2 hours of sleep.

Abah allowed us to rest before we started operation spring cleaning. Interesting how both of us were spring cleaning at the same time eh. #nilagistakat

But masih banyak perlu clean (read: buang). So operation incomplete.

Another highlight is how I finally said no to the outing for a karaoke session even though it’s an all ladies thing. Thank you spiritual booster kienah for the confidence and reminder.

I am not proud to admit about my first experience of going to a karaoke session which happened at Jakarta last 2 weeks. I think curiosity got hold of me as I’ve said no to such outings back in Singapore although it was strictly all ladies outing on every invitation.

I need to remember why I said no.

  1. Time can be better utilised on other things
  2. I don’t know most of the songs anyway

It was a good first experience as it felt nice to be free and to sing with no judgement with lovely girls. I only knew lyrics from high school musical (zaman primary 6 #jgnkecam haha) though.

But it was also my last trip for such sessions as I was honestly shocked by the lyrics and music video of so many songs! How can all them be so shallow and sexually explicit? 😦 (I must have been hiding in cave…..)

I worry about my generation and kept thinking about the experience for quite sometime. I got curious and wanted to know if people still listen to songs with meaning. Songs that not only agree with your feelings (i sad, you sad, we all sad kind) but also uplift you and remind you on what is our real purpose in life.

This brought me to the insta story question which I asked several days back. I’m glad there are still propagators of good songs out there. Whether you’re a listener or a composer, keep doing your thing ok! Because if we cannot provide an alternative, our future generation would be deprived of value-added content.

But…there are people who told me:

“Don’t listen to songs altogether!”

I have such friends. I respect their opinion. But music has been deeply ingrained in society to the point that if we can’t beat them, we join them (by giving an alternative).

Just my thoughts on songs. Do share your views too if you want 🙂

(Iqaah if you’re reading this, it has nothing to do with the people!)
