Day 2: A Humbling Experience

(disclaimer: this was written in between breaks)

So much firsts happened yesterday that I was overwhelmed. I reached home before 11pm as I had a session with my nusaibaes (I just created this name a second ago) after maghrib. It’s been so long since I involved myself in a strenuous activity. Yesterday involved a lot of walking and thinking that I zoned out the instant I came home. 2 things to work on:

  • timing
  • family

More on day 1 in a separate post..hopefully.

As I sit amongst fellow patrons of the library, I feel a sense of gratitude washing over me. I may not have the ideal dream office space overseeing greenery. But what I have in front of me are simply a small depiction of reality in sunny SG – the studious, the casual, the roamer. Basically readers from all walks of life.

I just saw a kid happily running through the glass doors, excitement overflowing his little soul.

I have yet to make myself at home in some cubicle like how I imagined myself to be. It has been hectic, a constant move in between meetings and places.

However, I kinda like the vibes. The people here have been friendly, open, always on the go, finding new ways to promote reading and executing programmes.

If Allah wills it, I really really want to be part of this family.

Getting paid for inspiring a reading culture to a nation sounds too good to be true. Question is, am I equipped for it?

Till then, #interninsyirah signing off.
