You’re so beautiful my dear Sunshine
you truly, live up to your name,
luminous, bright, shining
you inspire me so much (mashaAllah)
and i feel so grateful that you decided to meet me today, to listen and to encourage my concerns, ideas and hopes
In life, I realised that a journey worth travelling is one with the best of companions
I loved how warm you have always been
and today as you saw me,
you made me feel as if we’ve known each other for years
but maybe we have,
in a land before our time
a land we dearly miss
a land we shall aim to return to
but sunshine,
it’s been you all along
you’re like a magnet,
attracting only good
and you inspire me so much
juggling work and community works
you live and breathe activism
as I got to know you better today,
realising how privileged one can get
for most of our concerns revolve around school (for now)
while you,
the unwavering voice of a lady with high principles,
had to become the family’s breadwinner at the age of 22
forgoing your deep rooted yearning to seek new horizons
while those our age squander their lives away like confetti
dear, you make me smile, laugh and feel grateful for the littlest of things
your words were like scripts crafted out of novels
and it was fun while I tried to speak the same way
quoting novels in our sentences
applying them into our realities
realities for which we hoped were discovered earlier
realities we hope to share with our precious pearls
we even loved the same novel
we grew with the same principles in life
and dear,
I can only pray that you’ll meet someone
someone special that will share your enthusiasm
and your advice is one I hold dearly
to find someone who can carry the same dreams
who would mirror our love for the community
doing
instead of saying
creating
instead of waiting
and dear, before I forget
I must pen down how your words rang true
to each his own destiny
their own stage
own place and time to shine
for one person’s journey can never be the same
for failure is only defined by the unwillingness to take that step
I hope
the smiles you bring today,
will be the reasons for your smile hereafter.
Uhibbuki fillah
much love for people like you. (here’s to ALL the sisters I’ve known. EVERY. single. one. unique and special in their own ways)
