Jawahirul Islam // Gems of Islam // Permata-permata Islam

Bismillah.
For today’s post, I would like to share some beautiful takeaways from the sharing session held during ‘Girls Day Out!’ , organised by TPNI just a few days back.

Topic: Gems of Islam

Not mine

Reviewing our Islamic History, one would not be surprised to come across numerous references about lady heroes during the lifetime of our beloved Prophet s.a.w in our daily readings.
I’ll be summarising the details of what our Gems did, (indication for readers to read up) while focusing more on the lessons learnt and how to reflect/honour their character/spirit in our modern life.
Gem #1
Who? – Nusaybah bint Ka’ab r.a
What? – Protected Rasulullah s.a.w during the battle of Uhud. Battle of Uhud was the second battle in Islam, also the first battle Muslims lost to the Mushrik. Many got martyred, fled, but there stood Nusaybah r.a who fearlessly were amongst those who stayed to protect the Prophet s.a.w.
How? – From here, we learn about the often deceptive thought of “underestimating” a fellow comrade. I am by no means a supporter or propagator of any feminist movements. My only prayer is for ladies in this modern day and time to realise how much potential they have in honouring the Deen. To pattern after Nusaybah bint Ka’ab r.a in her strength, bravery and undying love for matters which are important.
Dear sisters, what is more important than to fulfil the reason of our existence?
Honour her by carrying on her spirit! InshaAllah!
Gem #2
Who? – Rumaysa/ Umm Sulaym r.a
What? – Divorced her former husband to maintain her faith. Not long after, Abu Thalhah r.a asked for her hand in marriage. Despite his charms and worldly possessions, Umm Sulaym r.a turned him down because he did not share the same religion as hers, Islam. Finally, Umm Sulaym r.a married Abu Thalhah r.a with his conversion as her mahar. MashaAllah!
How? – Umm Sulaym r.a left a great reminder for muslimah(s) in this modern era. That is, to hold firmly upon the Deen. She chose Islam over Love. She laid down Islam as her guiding principle and held upon it, firmly, despite how handsome, youthful and wealthy a guy is. Sadly, women today lack such persistence and firmness when dealing with the opposite gender. How many of us melt at the very sight of a young charming lad? Walhal, he is not even muslim. Worse, he does not even know you or even honour the religion you claim to be proud of. (naudzubillah!)
Do not be mistaken, it is undoubtedly human nature to love beautiful creations of God. But, not, ever, at the expense of our Deen. To cut it short, Umm Sulaym r.a has portrayed how a muslimah should behave when dealing with the opposite gender. In fact, with any worldly, ephemeral creations of Allah. InshaAllah dear sisters!
//These are only 2 Gems from many other Gems in Islam//
Before I end, let me conclude this post…
In this challenging time where popular but clearly deluded beliefs about how women in Islam face oppression by abiding to Islamic teachings are disturbingly increasing, it is high time we emulate these gems of Islam in living what’s left of our lives. Succumbing to what or how society thinks a lady should conduct herself and live up to the community’s standard //to me// is an oppression itself.
Be brave!
Have courage!
Live by your principles!
Live to please Him rather than him/her/them!
