Flag Day – UIMA

We were walking through a bustling Jurong Point today when a Chinese middle aged cleaner called us. She held out a few coins. We were like a paused scene in a movie. While other shoppers walked by without a second glance. At the same time, a sharp pair of eyes never held away his gaze on us.

“Lets get going, Mr security has his eyes set on us.”

The cleaner’s act of kindness touched me. How many of us stop by the school kids to drop a coin or two while busy getting to our destinations?

How many of us never thought twice to lend a hand in another’s financial burden?

Allah.

This reminds me of Ustazah Fatimah Syarha’s novel (which I have yet to complete) with her main character as a cleaner. Yet not an ordinary one.

Helping out for Tabung Jumaat has faced us with pious people that are aware of the ibaadah they do. What I meant was, they are already in tune and are focused to go to the mosque to do good acts. Hence it surprise me a little that so many age groups came and donated.

But during Flag Day, you are not assigned to any mosque. In fact, you are not allowed to even stand on the grounds of shopping centres. So there I was, getting a feel of how people seek help on roads. This may be my third time helping out an organisation in their Flag Day. But it never fails to amaze me how different age groups, different religious groups and even ethical groups came by to drop a coin or two. Or even some notes.

The thing is,

Sometimes little things can bring big impacts. MashaaAllah InshaaAllah.

May Allah guide us. Ameen.
